Katrina Lamb is known for works that pulsate with raw energy and authenticity. She came from a theatre background, trained classically in music, and attended the New Genres MFA program at the San Francisco Art Institute. She lives out her intense personal and existential issues constantly through her work, which itself navigates through the entanglement of these different genres. This project comes at a juncture of her life where she ‘feel a strong and rather urgent need to vacate my life altogether to the greatest extent possible without losing everything.’

For the week of 3/15 – 3/21, Katrina will be occupying LiVE WORK space entirely, to ‘work through a series of gestures of sorts…to concentrate on doing these actions..to explore different personas or tasks.’ She chose LiVE WORK because it would provide her a ‘domestic space but is as empty as possible.’ Due to the exploratory nature of the project, she is not clear about exactly what she will be doing. But she did mention that she would bring a long piano wire, folk songs her parents gave her, a guitar, and a memory of a cabaret that she intended to re-enact.

‘Grossly repetitive, the tasks may be partly a way to account for the time whilst avoiding going through the rote motions of the lists of activities that generally occupy and whitewash the hours outside of work.’

At the end of the week, on Sunday March 21 at 2pm, LiVE WORK will be open for public viewing of the video and photographic outcome of Lamb’s weeklong self-exploration, along with other ephemera. Entree is free. More details to come when the event approaches.

Katrina’s works have been shown at YBCA’s Bay Area Now 5, New Langton Arts, Root Division, and the Lab, among others. More information about Katrina can be found in her bio and cv.
