Stare

Performance on video, 2003

"Stare" is a video of a performance. A volunteer at a time and I looked each other in the eyes for as long as we remained engaged, a supposedly very personal act but in a public setting. The personal act quickly developed into an intrinsic psychological power play.

First performed at Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture for one full day with 11 participants. Each session lasted from 1 second to 14 minutes.
