Mock-up for the installation view

Close-up of the banners

EXSCRIBED!

Site/show specific installation with paper banners, glow-in-the-dark paint, 2007

I was invited by Yerba Buena Center for the Arts to submit a proposal to their Bay Area Now 5 survey exhibition. It purports to critique the making of a major survey show such as the BAN5. It wasn't realized.

One paper banner (2'x3', of the tone similar to the interior wall) is made for each artist who has been invited to submit a proposal but eventually is not selected to participate in the BAN5. These banners will be hung 1' below the ceilings of various halls in the YBCA. On each banner, the corresponding artist's name is incised. Behind the incision, these names are painted on the wall in glow-in-the-dark paint. During day time, these banners will be almost un-noticeable except when a draft wind passes and they rustle a bit. However, when night comes (and the galleries are closed), these names start to glow in the dark.
