Catalog "A Tree Is A Tree"

 “A Tree Is A Tree” is a catalog for an art exhibition of the same title by conceptual artist Michael Zheng. The exhibition took place in 2022 at 500 Capp street, the David Ireland House in San Francisco. It’s the the former house and the magnum opus of the late conceptual artist David Ireland.

The exhibition consisted of eight piece of site-specific installations, each responding to some spatial, personal or historical aspects of the space. Since the works in the show were all ephemeral, this catalog provides the record of that exhibition after it came down.  

In addition to the high-resolution color images of the 8 pieces of the art works in the show, there are also two essays respectively by Lian Ladia, the curator of 500 Capp street, and Max Blue, the art critic of San Francisco Examiner. Also, there is an in-depth conversation between the artist and the internationally renowned art critic and curator Hou Hanru. Together, these articles deconstruct the works in the exhibition, as well as Zheng’s creative process and underlying philosophy and influences, making it an important book on Zheng’s art.
